As a child, I was enamored with books and spent much of my time reading and writing. Although my preferred genres changed shape, I was fascinated by language and other worlds, and I was always writing something.
I went on to earn an English BA (with a creative writing concentration), then a Poetry MFA at Sarah Lawrence College. In these programs, I learned an immense amount from the guidance of my peers and mentors and truly refined my craft. I’ve always had a precise eye and enjoyed providing feedback almost as much as I enjoyed writing; I believe my passion for editing stems from this.
Interestingly, I was initially drawn to fiction writing—especially speculative, magical works—but I fell in love with my Poetry I class. Poetry gave me a brand new aesthetic toolbox for self-expression, and I became fixated on the sonic capabilities of language.
In grade school, we focused solely on classic poets and writers, and so it was exciting for me to read contemporary writers too; it made the field accessible and dynamic.
When I first graduated, I thought I wanted to teach, and so I pursued positions in teaching and school administration. But I often found myself helping with writing- and editing-related tasks even so. As my love for language grew, I decided to pursue it full time.
I amassed industry knowledge from books, articles, and extensive research; then freelanced; then built that into my small business.
As much as I love sharing my own stories, I’m compelled to help people share theirs too, whether that’s their business story, memoir, poetry collection, or debut novel.
If you have a story you’d like to share, you know where to find me.
